What is Soul Writing (vs Journaling)?

Updated: Apr 26, 2020

Feeling like you hit a wall? Not sure what else you can do to manifest that ideal career, relationship....fill in the blank? Then it’s time to try a different approach. Soul writing. No, not journaling, but soul writing.

For most of my life, I tried to resolve my personal and professional frustrations on the mental, physical, and/or emotional level. Over the years, I observed that each time I incorporated an energetic approach, results happened so much faster.

The energetic approach is usually overlooked so weaving in more than one approach when handling your problems, especially the energetic approach, helps to speed things along.

Soul writing is different that journaling.

It’s also not the same is automatic writing either. Soul writing is a writing process to divine dialogue. When you write at the soul level, activate a “divine voice” by slipping into the theta brainwave state.

So what exactly is soul writing if it is not journaling or automatic writing? Can we do it on our own? What are the benefits of soul writing as opposed to other methods of writing?

According to Janet Conner, author of “Writing Down Your Soul”, soul writing is a unique but simple process that allows you to get out of your conscious, stress-filled mind. It helps you get in touch with your deep, authentic self–your soul.

Soul writing activates an infinite source of wisdom, guidance, and grace.

I came across Janet Conner’s story when I was listening to a spiritual podcast series. During the inspiring interview, Conner stated she stumbled upon soul writing while trying to navigate a traumatic divorce.

With just pen and paper, she discovered she could ask for guidance and receive it. She could express sorrow and be comforted. Conner could also seek protection and be surrounded with strength and peace.

Conner discovered she could even ask for and receive all manner of material support. On her website JanetConner.com, she tells an inspiring story. One day she wrote, “I don’t know how you are going to do it, but I know that you are. Thank you in advance for $10,000 for the attorney.”

Forty-eight hours later, it was in her hands. Talk about the law of attraction at its best! Sounds like a great way to manifest faster breakthroughs to me!

According to Conner, deep soul writing did much more than carry her through her divorce. It delivered her onto a whole new shore and a new life of writing books, leading deep soul explorations, and teaching all the courses in her signature series, Your Soul Wants Five Things.

Not content to have experienced the life-changing power of soul writing for herself, she set out to uncover the science and deep spiritual truths that explain why writing by hand is such an effective tool. She interviewed experts in neurobiology, psychology, brainwave function, compassionate listening, to the Akashic Record.

Conner makes the point that the world is full of “loud voices”. Such noise can come from advertising, media, bosses, colleagues, friends and family. The voices can compel us to live the life they want us to live.

But what happens when we allow those voices to direct our choices?

Whether we’re conscious of it or not, we start living an appearance-directed, approval-directed, relationship-directed, success-directed life. But living an externally-directed life leaves us hungry for something deeper and more substantial.

We sense it’s time to listen to the only “voice” that matters.

According to Conner, “your soul sprang from divine ground and will return to divine ground. It’s wise. It’s gentle. It’s loving. And it is unafraid.

Humanly, we easily become afraid, so we scramble to find things that can make us feel safe. But real security comes only from connection to Source. This is the one nonnegotiable for the soul.

That’s why ‘to connect with Source’ is first in the list of five things the soul wants.

There are many ways to connect with the Divine, but none as easy and clear as writing at the soul level. But don’t confuse soul writing with journaling. Writing Down Your Soul may be #1 in the journal-writing category on Amazon, but it’s not journaling!”

Weaving together the most potent elements, Conner developed a simple, easy-to-follow process anyone can use to experience direct and immediate access to the Voice of wisdom within. In her book “Writing Down Your Soul”, readers learn how to:

• engage all your senses when you write

• employ the power of intention

• exit conscious mind

• enter the theta brain wave state while writing

• listen with your spiritual ear

• write from your heart

• ask questions that activate the “Voice”

• recognize your Voice’s unique “signature”

• build new neural pathways

• befriend your inner critics

Consistent and daily practice is all it takes when it comes to any type of energy work.

You could pray, meditate, dream, visit a shaman, or a hypnotherapist. With so many routes into inner consciousness, writing may be the fastest way to tap into your inner wisdom. Soul writing can help you hear the small, still voice pointing you in the right direction.

Write every day, at approximately the same time, with passion, honesty, and the intention of speaking with and listening to the voice within. Here are 3 key strategies to help you on your soul writing journey!

1. Feel yourself already there.

Put emotions behind it when you feel as if you already resolved your challenge. Visualization and affirmations are great tools but this envision strategies will take these techniques a step further.

For instance, think of a scenario where your best friend is congratulating you on that dream career or the healthy weight loss, if that’s the challenge you are trying to overcome. Replay this scene two to three times a day.

When you do so, this reduces space for doubts, negative self-talk, and anxious thoughts to dominate your day. If you mind keeps spinning over when it is going to happen, how it is going to happening, you’re going to end up hitting a wall over and over again.

Let the Universe help you out in aligning things so that you don’t have to overthink the “when” and “how” it’s going to happen.

2. Ask, then listen.

Have a conversation with your higher self, engage your inner self, your intuition by asking questions. Other ways you can tap into your intuition is to journal, meditate, and be out in nature to clear your mind and get grounded.

You can also ask your angels, guides, Spirit, the Universe, as well. Just start having a conversation and make it a part of your daily routine!

3. Create space for flow.

I often use the example of manifesting a six figure salary. If you want to attract that amount, you have to be open to giving in order to receive. That’s cash flow, energetically speaking.

Money is energy. So when you donate your time, give to charities, provide your services to places that are sources of inspiration, this creates and allows the energy to flow in.

As I emphasized in other videos, workshops, and articles, we are all here to fulfill our various life callings and the Universe is going to help us do so. There is an abundance in the Universe to help us achieve our goals.

So when you send out money, or energy, into the Universe, it will come back in abundance. This may be in a salary raise, another career, or a completely different and unexpected form.

Today, research scientists in psychology, physics, biochemistry, and neurology are providing peeks into what consciousness is and how it works. Their findings give us intriguing clues as to what is actually happening in and through our bodies, minds, and spirits as we roll pen across paper.

Writing Down Your Soul explores some of this research and instructs readers how to access the power and beauty of their own deepest selves. Ready to manifest your next breakthrough?
