The benefits of Reiki have been covered quite a bit from Vanity Fair, Oprah to Newsweek. As the coverage in mainstream media continues, many have wondered what are the common emotional responses to Reiki.
Why is it that there is such a range in responses to Reiki healing? Some feel a shift on the physical, mental, emotional and energetic level while others feel no difference at all.
After a number or in-person and distance Reiki sessions, I actually fall in the category where I do not feel any shifts after receiving Reiki. The same goes for all my in-person and distance attunements.
Ironic for a Reiki master, isn’t it?
As a Reiki practitioner, I was taught during training that shifts happen regardless of whether or not the recipient felt the “bells and whistles.”
Reiki energy works with the law of attraction to clear blocks and enhance your energetic health.
Being consistent in incorporating energy work into your daily routine is key to boosting your vibrations.
Thus, some people may feel shifts after a few sessions while others just simple don’t feel any changes.
When a Reiki practitioner channels universal energy to the recipient, the intention is set for the healing energy to go where it is needed and for the highest good of the recipient.
We all have some kind of baggage that comes from accumulated life experiences. Some are able to process and release it more easily than others. Some tend to repress these difficult emotions.
As each individual’s body and needs are different, the emotional responses to a session ranges from feelings of sense of peace, reduced anxiety, to not feeling any shifts at all.
Reiki healing energy goes where it is needed to go for the recipient’s highest good.
The healing is not always accompanied by bells and whistles.
Nevertheless, an emotional healing responses, sometimes referred to as a cleansing reaction, can occur after a session. This can include tears or fatigue as past memories surface in order to be released.
Reiki can heal on the physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual level.
The universal energy may begin to work on emotional healing first, as that could be the source of a physical manifestation or illness.
If a Reiki healer sensed shifts occur during the treatment and maybe even received messages, there is a possibility that the recipient felt no change.
New practitioners are likely to doubt that this indicates their lack of experience, while experienced practitioners will likely not be affected by the recipient’s (lack of) response.
Shifts happen regardless.
Again, the benefits of Reiki healing do not need to be accompanied by bells and whistles.
Reiki energy can be very powerful and does not need to make its presence known while healing and supporting the recipient on the the physical, mental, emotional and energetic level.
In order for Reiki healers to assist a recipient’s experience, it is a good idea to prepare the recipient for what may or may not occur during a session.
People sometimes notice physical sensations.
This includes feeling tingling or changes in temperature, seeing colors, feeling light or heavy within the body, feeling sleepy, or relaxed. Others may not feel any sensations at all which is completely ok.
At the end of the session, healers can discuss with the recipient what both sides experienced. This is another chance for practitioners to reassure their clients that the session was effective.
Practitioners also want to alert recipients that he/she may find it takes some time to process the session. If appropriate, a comprehensive intake and outtake form ensures the recipient has clear expectations and an understanding of what the Reiki session can look like.
Overall, Reiki healers will attract the recipients that they can help the most.
So if recipients do not feel shifts during a session, it still means the session has benefited them and is in the interest of their highest good.
Reiki practitioners also need to make sure their ego is not encouraging them to believe that the results need to look a certain way. Reiki master or not, we all have the ability to heal ourselves and other through Reiki.
