The Reiki Master Symbol is also called the Dai Ko Myo symbol. It is considered one of the most powerful symbols used in Reiki. Before we go over some how to use the symbol, let’s cover some basics...
How does Reiki energy work?
Reiki is universal life force energy. Reiki energy goes to the place in the body that is imbalanced and requires healing.
Reiki energy works with the law of attraction to help balance your chakras (energetic centers). When your chakras are balanced, you are better able to raise your vibrations.

How to Reiki symbols work?
Different types of symbols are associated with a unique set of beliefs regarding the nature of their symbolic forms. Reiki symbols are a part of a group of symbols that enable you to connect with and harness energy.
The symbol itself does not possess any power of its own but is used to access the power. The Reiki symbols facilitate a connection with different aspects of Reiki energy.
There are many different ways to draw a particular Reiki symbol. But they are all equally effective in connecting with Reiki. Rather than getting caught up with the most effective variation of a symbol, it is better to focus on the intention and purpose of the symbol.
According to the Reiki: Level I, II, and Master Manual, the Reiki symbols represent aspects of healing and enlightenment.
When someone visualizes, draws or intones the names of any of the symbols, it can help them to connect with Reiki energy and activate the function and specific purpose the symbol represents.
Although intention alone can activate the power connected with the symbols, it’s best to understand the meanings of each symbol. It is not necessary to completely understand the meanings of the symbols before using them.
But, a basic understanding will enrich your experience when using them. The symbols are reminders that there are ways to focus on different aspects of the Reiki energy when used correctly in our Reiki practice.
Reiki Master Symbol: Dai Ko Myo
The Dai Ko Myo (DKM) is known as the Master symbol. It is considered one of the most powerful symbols used in Reiki. This symbol combines the power of Cho Ku Rei, Sei He Ki and Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen.
The Master symbol can access the highest vibration and have a significant effect on the energetic aspects of the body and mind. Using the symbol can help to address imbalances that the soul is carrying that are ready to be transmuted.
By healing at the energetic level, the mental and physical aspects of the body and mind are then balanced as well. The Dai Ko Myo symbol represents the source of Reiki energy and can be translated as enlightenment.
According to the Reiki: Level I, II, and Master Manual, Reiki energy is effective with or without the symbols. You can choose to use all four symbols in a session or none at all as these symbols are a tool to help you focus your energy.
Become familiar with the symbols but there is no need to rely on them. With time and practice, your energy will be focused with your intent and the symbols will not need to be an integral part of your session.
Empowering Connection to Soul
The Dai Ko Myo symbol represents empowering the connection to the soul. It enables recognition and clarity about your true path in life.
The Reiki Master symbol is used in the attunement of others to Reiki. Once attuned to the energy connected to the Master symbol, it can be used for yourself and others each time you perform a Reiki session.
The Master symbol can be a catalyst for creating dramatic changes in the personal and professional life. To help manifest goals, draw, project or intone the symbol.
Then visualize what you intend to manifest with the intention that you will receive what is in your highest good.
According to the Reiki: Level I, II, and Master Manual, the Master symbol resonates at a high frequency and can have a positive effect in most situations. The symbol can also be used for protection and to clear away negativity.
Ways to Activate the Master Symbol
• Mentally beam a white DKM through your hands as you work with a client
• Visualize a white DKM on the palms before your session
• Draw the DKM on your hands with your index finger before you begin your session
• Draw the DKM in the air and beam it in the direction of your hands
Where To Use the DKM in a Session
Draw or project the DKM symbol on your palms and then draw or project the DKM on to the recipient’s:
• Crown chakra
• Areas that are symptomatic (if known)
Intention is key so intoning the DKM silently is just as effective as any other method of activation.
According to the Reiki: Level I, II, and Master Manual, the DKM can be used in any situation you would want to use the other Reiki symbols. You can use the name of it to meditate, while concentrating on the ultimate source of all.
