According to Mahatma Gandhi, “a man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, be becomes.” Managing thought patterns is not easy. Our brain is wired to help us survive in this world. Thus, the brain tends to look for what’s wrong, for whatever can hurt us, and what we must to do survive the worst case scenario.
As a result, an undirected mind operates naturally in survival mode by searching for threats. I don’t know about you but that usually is in the form of a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety for me! In fact, this survival mentality leads to the opposite effect of being in search of happiness.
Life is just too short and our time is just too precious to constantly operate in survival mode. There isn’t a bear running after us every day.
Yet our stress levels hit that peak point when someone cuts us off on the road or when we are sitting in traffic. So how does one begin to manage the thoughts away from survival mentality?
The next time you sense you’re unnecessarily operating with a survival mentality, take a step back. When you’re stuck in traffic and running late to an appointment, it’s hard to shift your focus to sunny beaches and teddy bears.
That’s why it’s important to take baby steps to ease out of the negative thought patterns. If you do reach the point of sunny beaches, great. If not, it’s ok too! So long as you don’t continue down the rabbit hole of negative thoughts.
Recognize that the sympathetic nervous system is activated which is often referred to as the fight or flight response. Take three slow breaths to ease your way out of the fight or flight mode.
Applying Reiki Symbols
Building on the breath work, when you inhale, you can either say or intone the Reiki symbols. The Reiki symbols are reminders that there are ways to focus on different aspects of the Reiki energy. Thus, it may be helpful to visualize the symbols as energy.
Cho Ku Rei
Next, set the intention. For instance, say you are focusing on the Cho Ku Rei symbol which means “placing all the power of the universe here.” It is the power symbol and helps release resistance. You may then wish to set the intention to detach from any particular outcome.
Sei He Ki
You could also choose to focus on the Sei He Ki symbol. The Sei-He Ki helps bring balance between the right and left brain. It is mainly used for emotional and mental healing. Thus, saying the the symbol out loud or intoning it can help shift your intention towards emotional and mental healing.
Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
Another symbol you may want to focus on is Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. This symbol is known as the distance healing symbol, and is used to transcend time and space. Through the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen symbol, Reiki energy can be used to heal a past unresolved issue or even to a past life. Reiki can also be channeled to future situations such as operations, interviews or business meetings.
Continue this breath work for a minute to allow yourself to recenter. In addition to reciting various Reiki symbols, a combination of Reiki symbols (Reiki sandwich) can be used to release any blockages too. Overall, by shifting your focus from the “perceived threat”, you are shifting your energy. After all, energy flows where the mind goes.
17 seconds is all it takes!
In fact, studies have shown that managing your energy can greatly benefit your energetic health. Even 17 seconds of focusing your attention on something positive can impact your thought patterns.
When you hold a positive thought, you activate the vibration of that thought within you. Immediately the Law of Attraction begins to respond to that activation.
Energy flows where attention goes.
The longer you keep your attention focused on something, the easier it becomes for you to continue to focus upon it. This is because you are attracting, through the Law of Attraction, other thoughts or vibrations that are the essence of the thought you began with.
Within 17 seconds of focusing on something, a matching vibration becomes activated. And now, as that focus becomes stronger and the vibration becomes clearer. Accordingly, the Law of Attraction will bring to you more thoughts that match.
At this point, the vibration will not have much attraction power. However, if you maintain your focus longer, the power of the vibration will become further reaching.
And if you manage to stay purely focused upon any thought for as little as 68 seconds, the vibration is powerful enough that its manifestation begins.
Remember, good and bad stress is a part of everyday life. However, there are many ways to effectively reduce unnecessary stress through energy work. This includes meditation, mindfulness, and various types of Reiki healing techniques.
