5 Steps to Increase Lead Conversions on Pinterest

Whether your in the wedding or wellness industry, there are a pinfinite number of ways to increase lead conversions on Pinterest. Through trial and error, I like to stick to 3 main Pinterest marketing strategies to convert leads. After all, a surge in website traffic is great. But what good is a gazillion views when there are zero sales.

So where does one even begin? Let's start with a few definitions first to make sure we are on the same page.

Leads can be generated from blogs, referrals, networking events, trade shows and so forth. Lead conversion is the process of turning a lead into a reader, viewer, contact, and/or opportunity.

Pinterest Marketing 101:

For business marketing, Pinterest is best leveraged as a visual search engine tool. Not a social media platform. For this reason, keywording is the way to being found on Pinterest.

Pinterest SEO:

Keywording helps fuel search engine optimization (SEO). A solid SEO strategy leads to an increase in organic reach.

How to Increase Lead Conversions:

1. FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Start with your target market’s frequently asked questions. What questions do you get asked the most about your business?

Then work backwards to determine those key words.

Not sure what specific search terms are your target audience entering into the Google search bar?

Conduct keyword analysis in Google: “FAQ [insert topic]”

For example, since I write a lot about Pinterest SEO, I would enter "FAQ Pinterest" or "FAQ SEO" or "FAQ Pinterest SEO".

2. Incorporate keywords

Got those keywords? Great, now it's time to insert those keywords (or phrases) into your pins titles and descriptions.

The same can be applied to board titles, descriptions, and your Pinterest profile.

3. A/B Test

In digital marketing, A/B testing is the process of comparing two versions of a web page, email, or other marketing asset with just one varying element.

On Pinterest, I frequently conduct A/B tests for copy (pin titles) and images to see which keywords and images resonate with other users.

In order to know which keywords resonate most, there is really only two numbers that are essential to track: clicks and repins. In that order.

As a side note, followers do not matter. Neither does monthly views. Both numbers do not accurately reflect website traffic or lead conversions.

Thus, a user with 10K followers can have more website views than a user with 5 times the number of followers. The same goes for monthly views and impressions.

4. Track click through rates (CTR) + repins.

I track CTR stats closely. Not followers, impressions, monthly views or really any other vanity number out there. On Pinterest, it's all about the CTR followed by number of repins.

On a side note, infographics get the most repins and shares but very low CTR. However, infographics are a great way to build brand awareness and have a higher likelihood of going viral over blog pins.

5. Edit, rinse + repeat

Once you know what keywords and images are resonating, create more pins using those words and images.

Got a pin that has gone viral? Hurray! Be sure to repin periodically to your personal boards and group boards so that it makes it back up to the top of the feed.

Also consider promoting the pin (running an ad). Promoted pins are well worth the investment. When it comes to the ROI for Pinterest ads, here are some stats (from Shopify) to consider:

  • 1 out of 2 users have made purchases after seeing a Promoted Pin

  • 67% of users discovered a new brand or product as a result of Promoted Pins

  • Promoted Pins typically earn $2 in profit for every $1 spent in ad costs

Why is it taking forever for pins to go viral?

Hang tight. It can take at least a month to see progress when it comes to Pinterest SEO. If it takes so long, why even bother?

SEO can provide great results. But only with the right time investment.

There are so many factors to consider when trying to figure out how much time SEO will take to be successful.

Websites typically can see results in 4-6 months. SEO results grow over time. It takes different rates for different websites, different domains.
